Songs for a Culture of Peace

The International Day of Peace ( September 21st) was declared by the UN General Assembly in 1989 as a day for strengthening the ideals of peace, within and among all nations and peoples, through observing 24 hours of nonviolence and cease-fire. It also begins a week of activities to raise awareness and commitment among peoples, communities, and nations of the urgent need to build a peaceful world. Millions of people have celebrated the International Day of Peace through various activities such as conferences, forums, sporting and artistic performances.

LINGAP-Canada is celebrating the 2023 International Day of Peace with a two- hour concert of "Songs to build a Culture of Peace". Individuals, groups, choirs and representatives from various Filipino associations in Alberta will perform songs (Filipino and English) that relate to the multiple themes and issues of building a culture of peace in Canada and in the Philippines, including nonviolence, resolution, social justice, human rights, intercultural understanding, sustainable futures, and inner peace.

This concert provides an opportunity for Filipinos in Alberta to appreciate the songs which contribute the building of a peaceful, just, inclusive and sustainable Philippines and Alberta.

Come and join in the spirit of the International Day of Peace !

Let the sixteen Filipino and English songs (traditional, folk, popular) inspire you to build peace in your lives, families, community and society in Canada and the Philippines!
